Leather
Akey exclusively uses Argentinian cow leather, known for it´s quality and finesse.
Vegetable tanning gives our leathers a softness, comfort, elegance and durability at the highest level. It is a genuine craftform that has been passed down from generation to generation, creating a valuable tradition.
The master tanners jealously guard their secrets, proud of having a special ancient recipe, combined with the most recent techniques.
The type of tannin used, the doses, the tanning times and the manufacturing method are the factors that make the difference. Everything is made with the care and dedication that any natural process requires. This is a slow process.
The leather is submerged for several weeks in a mixture of natural ingredients including "quebracho" tree-bark powder as well as natural oils and water. This tanning is "environment friendly". It is extraordinarily long-lasting and develops with time the rich patinas, the softness and the unique fragrance for which it is so prized. With proper care, it can last a lifetime.
On the other hand, "chrome tanning" , which is a cheaper alternative , involves an intense chemical activity that uses chromium sulfates and acid salts that causes environmental damage.
As a result of the above mentioned, our leather goods are not hazardous for health, specially for delicate or allergic skins.
